Cruciate Ligaments, Knee Injuries and Physiotherapy Singapore

cruciate ligaments (also known as the cruciform ligaments) are a pair of
ligaments arranged like the letter "X", and can be found in several
parts of the body e.g. the knee. These ligaments stabilize the joints strongly yet
at the same time allows a very large range of motion for the joint(s).
the most common injuries of the knee that we treat are knee injuries to the
anterior cruciate ligament (abbreviated to ACL) and the posterior one (labelled
the PCL). Like their names, anterior means "front" and posterior
means "back". They are very strong ligaments, rounded and extends
from the tibia to the femur, crossing each other like an "X" in the
knee. They are separate from each other, and have their own synovial sheath.
The ACL's main function is to keep the tibia from sliding too much forwards,
and the PCL is to keep the tibia from sliding too much backwards.
personally had a ACL rupture (100% and total rupture), so I could see that I
had a left knee anterior drawer syndrome, where my tibia would slide forward
too much in relative to my femur (that being the indicator for ACL rupture),
before I had Dr Chang How Chong (my principal orthopedic surgeon I would trust
with my bones and joints) operate on my knee to help me fix my knee. In the
past, my knee would buckle whenever I rotate e.g. change direction, but now
after the operation, it doesn't buckle anymore; hey, I even underwent a 8 weeks
long intensive physiotherapy intervention (3-5 times a week, though I did "run
away" from sessions about 3 times - it was that intensive).
Ever since 2008 following the operation, I still do maintenance physiotherapy on my own to ensure that the mobility, strength and function is still up to level so that I can be active.
