Footballer's Injury and Physiotherapy Singapore
Football is a sport, and like all sports, it comes with its set of
injuries, termed as footballer's injury. They occur to footballers who
play and train for football actively. In many cases, most of these
injuries are caused by overuse of a body part when participating in
certain activities. The commonest football injury are injuries of the
knee, and followed by injuries to soft tissues such as the ankle, the
muscles of the legs.
The knee is the core tool for
any footballer - it allows them to dash, jump, kick or receive a
football effectively. It is the knee that makes the players superstars,
and at the same time, there's an increase of close to 200% of knee
injuries in contact sports, including football injury. In some cases, a
footballer's injury in the knee can mean the end of one's career in
The ligaments that support and forms the
knee are four strong cords of ligaments: the Anterior Cruciate Ligament
(ACL), Lateral Collateral Ligament (LCL), Medial Collateral Ligament
(MCL), and Posterior Cruciate Ligament (PCL). The ACL is the stabilizer
and it modulates the stress transferred upon the kneecaps, and prevent
the knee from rotating too much or sliding too far front in relation to
the calf. 60% of footballer's injury are ACL tears. When it tears, it
splits open like strands of rope, and it will not heal (well) without
surgery - this means that surgery is almost always required.
takes around 6 - 10 months to recover from an ACL reconstruction
surgery (I know, as I've done one for myself too, as I had ruptured my
left ACL in 1996). Recovery is about 80-100% of their full level before
Physiotherapy and occupational therapy
intervention for a football injury will be intense, to increase and
maintain the range of motion of the joints involved, increase their
tensile strengths to withstand competitive playing, as well as to
increase the psychological and mental component of having a healed
Even if you are not playing competitively,
