Golfer's Elbow and Physiotherapy Singapore

For appointments/enquiries, please SMS/Call/WhatsApp xx

Golfer's elbow, otherwise known as medial epicondylitis, is characterized by inflammation, soreness or pain on the inside of the upper arm near the elbow. This pain is associated with excessive activity of the wrist flexors. The primary pathology exists in the tendinous origin of the forearm flexors, particularly in the pronator teres tendon.

Causes

  • Gripping your clubs incorrectly can cause damage to muscles and tendons.
  • Repetitive stress or sudden force applied to the elbow or wrist.

Symptoms

  • Localized tendeness just at or below the medial epicondyle, with pain on resisted wrist flexion and resisted forearm pronation.
  • Stiffness in the elbow
  • Pain when making a fist
  • Weakness in hands and/or wrists

How can we help?

Stretching and strengthening: We will get you started on an eccentric pronator teres strengthening program and stretching program.

Manual therapy for the neck and neural structures: Cervical mobilizations, thoracic mobilizations, and neural tissue mobilizations are commonly used as adjuncts to other forms of therapy. We not only treat the local symptoms but we also treat at the spinal level to gain long-term results.

Ultrasound: The use of electotherapeutic modalities such as ultrasound are often advocated and commonly used in practice for this condition. Therapeutic ultrasound is a treatment method that uses high-frequency sound waves (ultrasound) to speed healing in injured joint or muscle tissue.

General Advice

  • Rest - put your game on hold until the pain is gone.
  • Ice the area for 15 minutes 4 times a day for several days.
  • Reduce the stress on your forearm and elbow by changing your swing.
  • If elbow pain persists, see your physician to diagnose the cause and get proper treatment.
