Knee Injuries:
What physiotherapy and deep tissue release can do for you in Singapore

For appointments/enquiries, please SMS/Call/WhatsApp xx

In our physiotherapy clinic, we see and treat many different kinds of knee injuries and knee conditions, often very successfully. They can range from ligamental or cartilaginous problems to muscle strains and soft tissue problems. Our physiotherapists will assess and determine the main cause of your knee pain to treat the problem at the core.

The three commonest type of injuries to the knees are as listed below:

  1. Ligamentental tears and sprains - ligaments form stability points of the knee by encompassing the knee joint. If/when a ligament is over-stretched, the ligament fibers can be injured, causing inflammation, swelling, pain and an unstable knee joint.

  2. Cartilage tears (Meniscal tears) – the cartilage within a knee joint functions as a 'shock absorber', absorbing force to the knee, as well as helps the knee to keep the stability of the joint. This knee cartilage can be worn out by the usual wear and tear or because of acute injuries.

  3. Knee-Cap Pain (Patellofemoral Pain / CMP Chondroramalacia Patella) – in a regular knee, the knee cap is able to glide forwards and backwards or up and down smoothly through the knee motion. If there is a 'kink', and if the patellar is unable to move smoothly, there will be an increased resistance or pressure beneath the surface of the patella, which can cause friction, leading to inflammation, swelling and pain.

This can be caused by muscle weaknesses or imbalance, femoral groove, tightness in the surrounding tissues or simply because of the inversion or eversion of the feet. Pain is slow and gradual, generally as a dull ache, and can be aggravated by any activities that requires resisted knee movements e.g. squatting or kneeling or managing stairs.

For any type of knee injuries, it is very important that the correct diagnosis is made, so as to start physiotherapy intervention as quick as one can. Physiotherapy treatments will include Exercise and Movement to strengthen muscle imbalances, joint Manipulation & Mobilization, deep tissue massage, or even splintingto correct gait patterns.
