Imbalances in your muscles refers to the imbalance of the relationship of muscle tone, muscle strength and muscle length...and it is this imbalance that often leads to injuries.
How can muscle imbalance cause injuries?
You see, our body is an entire system, where muscles work together for certain functions. When a muscle is supposed to work but doesn't, another structure such as another muscle, joint or soft tissue, picks up its job and compensates for it.
muscle tone - refers to how "taut" the muscle is in resting and active mode. Different people have different tone throughout the day and activities
muscle strength - refers to the amount of force that a muscle group that is banded together is able to generate during a group motor unit use. Usually muscle strength is calculated in kilograms force or newton (N)
muscle length - refers to the length of a particular muscle; muscle lengths are vital to the strength it is able to generate. When a muscle is in relaxed and optimal length mode, it is able to contract easily to generate the force you need. Unhealthy length muscles are shortened muscles due to habit or abnormal use, and causes inadequate contraction (means: poor strength and utilization)
Symptoms of Imbalanced Muscles
imbalances are one of the common causes for much pain for the patients that we
see in our clinics daily. For example, the common back pain – often it is
caused by imbalanced back muscles that are both weakened because of a sedentary
lifestyle (as well as lack of exercises), coupled with poor posture during work
and sleeping that causes and aggravates this problem.
the first session, our musculoskeletal physiotherapists will assess and
diagnose your condition, and identify the core problems that is aggravating it.
Then we will put together a rehab intervention program for you to redress your
address some problems such as postural habits, strengthen up weakened muscles
(such as our core strengthening programs), and correct your muscle imbalance to
return to healthy muscle balance.
You will also be given "homework", that you will need to do regularly and between sessions, to accelerate your results.
