Structural imbalance dangers refers mainly to the dangers our bodies face when there is an instability or imbalance that threatens its balance.
First of all, let's explore what having good structural balance is - it means having optimal locating and positioning of your bones and joints. It simply means that our bones and joints have specific functions when it comes to force and weight bearing...and if forces come from an unnatural angle, it can cause structural imbalance.
For example, the long bones of our fingers are meant for fine tasks and can take weight on both its ends....but if a strong force came on the center of our finger bones, they can break easily (such as having a door slamming on our fingers - mega ouch!)
Likewise, our joints where two bones are connected, joints have a specific glide movement pattern e.g. like a hinge joint (think elbows and knees) move in just one type, but our shoulders, wrist and ankles have move range.
Structural imbalance dangers come when weight and stress is unevenly spread out over the joints, and one side more than another takes on most of the load. This is quite commonly seen, especially when we have pre-existing damaged structures such as lax ligaments, tight muscles or torn structures that cannot assist adequately with force.
Once the imbalance starts, it tends to go into a bad recurringly bad cycle, causing the structure and condition to get progressively injured if left untreated. An example is in the case of arthritic knees - the uneven loads will further wear out the worn AND unworn part of the joints, exarcebating the imbalance and causing further pain and imbalance.
The thing to note is that most of the time, it is not the structural imbalance structures that feel pain - in fact, there is little to no pain, as it's usually part of the aging process... which all of us will definitely go through, at some point or another.
Pain comes when the imbalance leads to other structures being damaged or pinched, such as nerves or even bone, which is the collateral damage cause in between. An example is if the joints in our neck start to fail, and it can no longer support the disk within, the disk can start to slip out and compress on to branches of nerves nearby, causing conditions such as numbness, pain and sciatica.
